Individual admits sexual offenses involving boys at summer program
A person who laced sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on recently.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said items including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant continued to engage in the "treat game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the police once more.
She explained the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
